| Fund Overview | The Ascot Fund is an absolute return fund with long/short capability, investing in Australian/NZ equities, derivatives and hybrid instruments with a focus on the ASX 200. Fundamental analysis, market timing and risk management are essential components of the fund's strategy. The fund manager, AR Capital Management (ARCM), has an investment team with over 50 years' aggregate market experience, and the owners of ARCM account for approximately 20% of the total units in the fund. |
| Manager Comments | In spite of the spectre of financial contagion rearing its head again in Europe, and China's attempts to control inflation, AR Capital believe that the flip side, namely that of improving global leading indicators, the improving employment outlook in the US and strong economic activity in Germany, along with China continuing to grow at a healthy pace, will all prevail over time.
As such, AR Capital think that should these scenarios play out over the next 6 months equity markets will respond by moving significantly higher than current levels, and are positioning the portfolio accordingly. |
