Fund OverviewLanterne's Ailsa is a long/short Australian equities fund using a structured quantitative approach overlaid with significant market experience. The fund's investment objective is to achieve superior absolute returns in all market environments, with an emphasis on capital preservation. The geographical breakdown is 100% Australia. The fund invests primarily in securities of companies within the ASX100. Stocks are analysed and graded according to the managers' investment process, and a core portfolio of long ASX 100 stocks and short ASX 100 stocks is maintained. The fund was formerly known as SHC Ailsa Fund.
Manager CommentsThe fund rose by 2.42% in September. The best performing ideas for the month were generally in cyclical longs in transportation, materials and energy. Weakest performers were longs in defensive sectors, as were some shorts in cyclical sectors such as property. Exposure (gross and net) was increased during the month as the market rally sustained itself.

With the markets rallying strongly from the August lows, and while in general earnings across the region may be supportive of current valuations, Lanterne believe global macro factors will drive the markets in the near term. See Lanterne Arran Fund report for macro outlook.
